Online Poker
Poker is a card game in which players bet into a communal pot during the course of a hand, and in which the player holding the best hand at the end of the betting wins the pot. During a given betting round, each remaining player in turn may take one of three actions: raise, call or fold.
Raise - when you raise you first put enough in the pot to match what has already been bet and then you would raise the pot by putting an additional amount in. So lets say the initial bet was 25 cents, you would have to put in 25 cents and than say I'll raise you another 25 cents. Now the other players will either Call, Raise, or fold.
Call - betting enough to match what has been bet since the last time you bet. An example would be if you bet 25 cents and someone else then bids 35 cents. You would now owe 10 cents. If you "call" than you would put the amount that you owed into the pot and you would stay in the hand.
Fold - dropping out of the current hand and losing the possibility of winning the pot. You don't have to put money in and you would only lose the ante (the initial bet) if it's on the first turn or if not then whatever you put in the pot up to the point you decide to fold. As the Kenny Rodgers song says, "you gotta know when to fold them". Sometimes it is just better to get out then waste good money on bad cards.
Betting usually proceeds in a circle until each player has either called all bets or folded. Different poker games have various numbers of betting rounds interspersed with the receipt or replacement of cards.
Poker is usually played with a standard 4-suit 52-card deck, but a joker or other wild cards may be added. At the showdown, those players still remaining compare their hands and the player with the highest hand wins.
